Clothing & Make-Up
What to Wear
The focal point of any portrait is your face, and most importantly your eyes. Classic or traditional styles will keep your portrait from looking dated in years to come. Avoid bright stripes, patterns and logos. Long sleeves and solid colors work well. Earthy tones help accent the composition for outdoor lifestyle portraits. Dark colors help to create a slimming effect against darker backgrounds. These rules are not set in stone, a light top with dark jeans is a geat look. You can also try layering a nice jacket over a light shirt. On the beach whites and tans work extremely well with the sand in the background. Shoes should never be worn for beach portraits. Most importantly, you want to feel comfortable and confident.
Hair & Make-Up
For Women
Wear your hair in the style you like best. Simple styles with hair away from the face work well. Wear the same make-up
you wear for evening or a special event. Avoid light colors above and below eyes. Your make-up should be well blended
with no sharp lines where make-up starts and stops. Foundations should be blended through the neck area. Be sure to
bring your make-up with you for touch ups. Jewelery styles should be conservative and not draw attention away from your
face.
For Men
It is important to shave before your session to avoid "5 o'clock shadow". I recommend a haircut within a week of the
shoot. Check to make sure your sideburns are even and no stray hairs are growing in funky places such as your ears.
